Central to Girvan Waugh’s business culture is our commitment to the health and safety of our employees and everyone who visits our work areas. Girvan Waugh is determined to be an industry leader in occupational health and safety, to satisfy legal requirements and to achieve our vision.

We will achieve this by:

  • Complying with all applicable laws, regulations and statutory obligations relevant to OH&S, providing Girvan Waugh staff with sufficient resources and training that enables them to perform their duties in accordance with all statutory requirements;
  • Designing safety into our work and work practice to eliminate or control hazards through the application of contemporary hazard management principles;
  • Establishing and reviewing Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and implement actions to continuously improve safety performance with the aim of eliminating work related injury and illness;
  • Accepting safe work practices as the only method of working and encouraging this concept for all staff and subcontractors;
  • Ensuring that all safety related incidents and occurrences are appropriately reported, and investigated, and that corrective actions are implemented across all Girvan Waugh sites;
  • Monitoring, auditing, reviewing and evaluating the health and safety performance of consultants, subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring effective communication with their health and safety performance and incorporating health and safety performance in assessing their suitability for future work for Girvan Waugh.
  • Audited and Compliance Certificate Trades Monitor, Accredited Australian Standards AS/NZS 4801:2001

Our commitment to, and capability in, quality management is achieved by:

  • Complying with statutory obligations, standards and codes of practice relevant to quality management and the environment in which we work;
  • Establishing, monitoring and auditing quality management systems;
  • Ensuring that relevant, appropriate and achievable objectives and targets are established and that they are reviewed regularly by senior management;
  • Providing sufficient and suitable resources to implement and maintain Girvan Waugh’s quality systems;
  • Employing suitably qualified, skilled, experienced and motivated employees including quality management in Girvan Waugh employee inductions;
  • Educating and training personnel to continually improve employee skills, awareness and knowledge of quality issues and practices;
  • Identifying, investigating and satisfactorily resolving all non-conformances;
  • Establishing and reviewing performance measures and taking action to improve performance and the quality management system;
  • Monitoring and evaluating the quality performance of consultants, subcontractors and suppliers and implementing effective communication with all parties on quality and non-conformance issues.

Environmental Management Plan

Our commitment to, and capability in our Environmental Management Plan:

  • Reduce and/or eliminate the release of pollutants to the environment
  • Reduce waste and resource depletion by utilising recycling principles where practical
  • Documents all environmental management activities, including verification and corrective actions
  • Implement an effective program for monitoring of environmental issue relating to Girvan Waugh's role in the project
  • Promote environmental awareness among employees
  • Support ecologically sustainable development
  • Protect and enhance the aesthetic environmental
  • Minimise impacts on the local community during works

We have adopted the following objectives using  a project methodology to reach our specific goals & balance these challenges. Beginning with raising awareness and education, we believe the job is not done until it becomes business as usual.

Education (Project definition)

  • Raise awareness and educate stakeholders in the principles and benefit of sustainable building practice
  • Identify opportunities and challenges
  • Define and prioritise projects with measurable, achievable outcomes in clear timeframes
  • Determine resources required for project delivery
  • Develop appropriate metrics to measure performance
  • Set benchmarks and KPI's together with incentives

Implementation (Project Implementation)

  • Install metrics and reporting systems
  • Provide resources for implementation
  • Go live with commencement of the project

Responsibility (Project Delivery)

  • Compare outcomes with KPI's and provide incentive accordingly
  • Communicate the progress to stakeholders
  • Influence stakeholders to create buy-in and assist with cultural change

Handover (Project Handover)

  • Continue driving change until a cultural shift takes place and the new way of doing things becomes business as usual
  • Ownership of the new way of doing business is by all Girvan Waugh stakeholders
  • Encourage innovation in new ideas and projects
